Han Kang, the first Korean author to win the Booker Prize, presents her new novel White. Based on an initial draft completed in 2014 and fine-tuned tirelessly until its release in May 2016, this novel explores the boundaries between life and death. It is composed of 65 stories that could easily be read as a collection of poetry.

The list of 'whites' summoned by the author includes items like swaddling clothes, baby clothes, sugar cubes, breath, the moon, rice, waves, blank paper, white hair, shrouds… From these, 65 stories are woven together under three main sections: 'I,' 'She,' and 'All things white.' Though a single novel, each story under these sections stands out with its own rich, self-contained quality.

The narrator has a story about her deceased mother and the sister who was born at 23 years old and died just two hours later. After moving to an old city on the opposite side of the earth, she becomes haunted by long-forgotten memories. The story then shifts focus from 'I' to 'She,' as the narrator believes that she came here in place of her, encountering the white things of the world anew through her.
