QM's second full-length album HANNAH

Inspired by Ted Chiang's short story Story of Your Life

I am afraid of dying. One might say that all humans are, but in my case, I would say I am a little more afraid. I'm scared of who sits in the back seat of the bus, who sits behind me in the movie theater, and of a stranger running toward me. I didn’t want to do anything. Once the thought that I’m going to die anyway settled in my mind, I didn’t want to do anything. And that’s how I turned 29.

We all age and die. That’s why we become obsessed with the illusion of time, leaving a legacy, and with money. To have a better, more comfortable life while we’re alive. I’m no different. I want to earn a lot of money. Happy money.

An older friend once asked me what I’d like to do first if I ever made a lot of money. I gave answers like in the song "100만원"—my dad’s foreign car, my mom’s cafe, and my brother’s business capital. Then he asked a second question that gripped me: "But what about you?"

For a person to live, whether they like it or not, they have to go through countless relationships. The stress and happiness that come from these relationships are yours to bear and resolve on your own. I live for my people—my family, my friends, and the people who believe in me. Don’t you do the same? Some might call me a hypocrite, because humans always put themselves first. And that’s true. But my first happiness is my family. That’s my answer to the second question my friend asked.

I am afraid of dying. We cannot escape this immense thing called time. That’s why I dream a simple yet difficult dream—to live happily with my loved ones for a long, long time. Just like you, who are reading this. I’ve immortalized my last years of my twenties in this album. And this is how I finish being 29.
