Reissue of Jaurim’s 2nd Album 'Lovers' on Picture Disc LP!!
Jaurim’s second album, Lovers, showcases a maturing musical direction for the band. While their first album interpreted modern rock in a distinctly Korean way, this second album takes a step closer to the rock sounds of the UK and the US.
Unlike their debut, where vocals and guitar took on most of the composing duties, Lovers features contributions from all members in the songwriting process. One standout track is the rock ballad "Sorry, I Hate You," which stays true to modern rock sensibilities while remaining accessible to a wider audience. Written by guitarist Lee Sun-Kyu and vocalist Kim Yoon-Ah, this song boasts a simple yet catchy melody. Kim Yoon-Ah, who also showcased her unique style on the first album, continues to display her distinctive emotional depth in the album’s title three-part suite, "Lovers," which includes "Queen," "Lover," and "Angel."
Bassist Kim Jin-Man contributes with "Find the Hidden Picture," and drummer Koo Tae-Hoon showcases his songwriting in "A Box Going to Heaven."
A key feature of this album is the emphasis on techno elements, which were subtly present in their first album in tracks like "Wax Angel." These influences become more pronounced in songs like "Lover 2/3" and "I Know," where the techno vibes are evident. The band seems to have naturally incorporated techno music into their style, much like U2 and Madonna during their transformations.
Another notable aspect of this album is its lyrical content, which, unlike the previous album’s more unified theme, explores various social issues. Tracks like "Fallen Flowers," inspired by youth suicide, "You’ll Freeze to Death Sleeping Here," which expresses warmth towards the homeless, and "A Box Going to Heaven," which critiques the desensitizing nature of TV media, show the band taking on a broader range of subjects. Jaurim is evolving not just in how they sing, but also in what they have to say, emerging as serious musicians with a message.
Lovers 3/3 The final track of the Lovers trilogy is recorded in two distinct styles, opening and closing the album. The alternative rock version at the start delivers the raw energy only a full band can produce.
Sorry, I Hate You This is the album’s signature track, with a straightforward chord progression and memorable bass and drum performances. Its somber melody makes it a standout rock ballad.
